Aggression in Childhood and Long-Term Unemployment in Adulthood: A Cycle of Maladaptation and Some Protective Factors

This article examines the effect of early childhood aggression on long-term unemployment and examines the pathways through which such a relationship exists, e.g., aggression produces poor school adjustment and results in peer rejection. These in turn may relate to problem drinking and lack of occupational opportunity. It further examined moderating influences that might direct aggressive children in more positive directions. The findings have important implications for prevention efforts.
